The brief to the designer, Joanna Archer, was to create a dedicated area for the family utilising an unusually shaped garden to the maximum. The family wanted it to be filled with abundant planting so our range of RHS endorsed trellis was always going to be a good starting point.
Joanna suggested her clients used our painted RHS Prestige Solid Fence Panels with RHS Prestige Square Trellis (38mm gap) on top for the perimeter of the garden to achieve the perfect combination of privacy while allowing plants to climb, creating a picture-perfect aesthetic. We’ve asked Joanna a few questions about the Garden Trellis Company products she used:
Why did you and your client choose our RHS Prestige Solid Fence Panels and RHS Prestige Square Trellis (38mm gap)?
“Our garden designs are built to last, so we always choose materials with exceptional quality and longevity. The solid fence panels really deliver on this, and the finish of the paintwork is beautiful. We like using the 38mm square trellis for additional privacy. It’s a stylish option for a classic traditional style garden such as this.”
Why did you and your client choose our Manhattan Grey paint colour for the garden joinery?
“We chose Manhattan Grey as it’s a soft grey green that blends well with planting. It also reflects the light around the otherwise quite dark garden. In this instance the client’s kitchen units were painted a similar colour, so this was a nice tie-in to the house interior. We liked the colour so much; we matched the furniture and pergola to the fence!”

What other colours do you recommend for perimeter fencing?
“I have recently used Gorse Green trellis in my own garden as it blends with the planting and the tones of an original Victorian brick wall that it sits on. I have used Stone in a contemporary urban scheme with great success. We have also used Autumn Tide in a traditional garden setting.”
