This week we are looking at a recent bespoke project. James Gee, one of our Project Managers talks to us about a bespoke decking project in Berkshire.
So James, what did the client want?
They wanted a lot of decking and also wanted our design input and advice on how it should be fitted.
What did we do to help with this project?
We were involved in several areas of the project. We estimated the costings of the initial brief. Then we attended site meetings with a Quantity Surveyor and a project manager. We surveyed the site then drew the scheme and provide a fixed quote. We also fitted the project!
So what were the most challenging aspects of this project?
We had to source a large quantity of FSC approved timber, for this timber decking project. Geographically, the distance meant our fitters had to stay in hotels. Then, once on site we had to be aware that we were working by the edge of the river Thames on a fast paced building site.
So, what bespoke products were used in the finished design?
The project features FSC certified Iroko hardwood decking. The scheme was then fitted down onto custom built bearers.
What are you most proud of in the design?
It’s the attention to detail and finish on such a large scale project, including the steps, the underside of a balcony, wall cladding, access panels and the border around the hot tub!
